Go Healthy with Taiwan: A Smarter Future for Global Healthcare

WORDS JEN CHEONG

On 3rd June 2025, Taiwan officially launched the Go Healthy with Taiwan campaign, aiming to attract global proposals in smart healthcare, wellness, and sports technology, offering partnerships with Taiwanese manufacturers and an opportunity to win a USD 30,000 prize.

A Campaign with Global Vision

Organised by Taiwan’s International Trade Administration (TITA) and executed by Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), Go Healthy with Taiwan hopes to jointly improve global health standards and promote well-being in cities, communities, and business environments across the globe.

The campaign’s launch event, themed “Pitching Taiwan’s Best: A Home Run for Proposals!”, represented Taiwan’s determination to deliver its top-tier health solutions to the global stage while connecting with international innovators.

The event featured key addresses from prominent figures including Joe Chou, Executive Vice President of TAITRA, and Susan Hu, Deputy Director General of Taiwan International Trade Administration.

Adding excitement to the occasion was an appearance by Taiwanese baseball star Lin An-Kuo, embodying the spirit of ambition and momentum behind the campaign.

Taiwan’s Unique Healthcare Strengths

During the media tour, HealthToday were given a front-row seat to some of Taiwan’s healthcare institutions and medtech innovators, notably Taipei Wellness Clinic and Resort, Taipei Veterans General Hospital, Acer Medical, BenQ Medical Technology and Onyx Healthcare.

Hotel Royal Beitou: Wellness and Comprehensive Health Screenings

Hotel Royal Beitou blends luxury wellness with state-of-the-art medical facilities, making it Taipei’s first dedicated medical tourism hotel. Featuring comprehensive screenings from MRIs to cosmetic surgery, the hotel is also Muslim-friendly, operating a 24/7 call centre and offering personalized services for international guests.

“We welcome around 10,000 guests a year, with 80% visiting for health screenings,” shared Mark Chen, Deputy General Manager of Sanitas Health Group. “Post-pandemic, we’re seeing renewed interest from Southeast Asia, and we expect that number to grow.”

BenQ Medical: Building Smarter Surgical Spaces

BenQ Medical Technology is bringing intelligence to the operating room. Its IQOR Smart Operating Room System integrates imaging and device control to improve safety and surgical efficiency, offering doctors more precision, and better patient outcomes.

Beyond hardware, BenQ is also one of the few companies combining optomechanics, electronics, imaging, software, and clinical feedback from its hospital partners to design smarter medical devices.

“What sets us apart is our ability to turn frontline clinical insight into real product innovation,” said Alex SC Lin, COO of BenQ Dialysis Technology.

Once a dialysis product distributor, BenQ now manufactures a full suite of systems: from dialysers and fluid delivery systems to disinfection tools and advanced imaging equipment.

From surgical support to smart hospitals, BenQ isn’t just upgrading machines, it’s rethinking what modern care looks like.

Acer Medical: Using AI to Advance Global Healthcare

From prediction to innovation, Acer Medical is using artificial intelligence to make diagnostic tools more accessible, especially in places where accessible healthcare would be a challenge.

One of their standout tools is VeriOsteo OP, which can check for signs of osteoporosis. The system uses AI to scan images and detect risk with up to 90% accuracy, without needing any extra equipment. This makes it especially useful for smaller clinics or rural areas.

“Our goal is to make smart healthcare available to everyone,” said Dr Allen Lien, Chairman and CEO of Acer Medical. “That’s why we’ve sent our AI tools to places like Belize and the Marshall Islands ,places that need support but don’t have enough doctors.”

Acer’s technology is already used in over 470 hospitals and clinics in Taiwan, and the company is now exploring ways AI can also help predict illness, support new treatments, and even aid in cancer research.

Onyx Healthcare: Tech Designed for Real Medical Needs

Unlike many tech companies that retrofit consumer products for hospitals, Onyx Healthcare starts with one question: What do medical professionals actually need?

“We’re not adapting consumer PCs for hospitals, we build for medical use from the very beginning,” said John Chuang, Founder and CEO of Onyx Healthcare.

From smart telemedicine tools to mobile nursing workstations, Onyx designs medical devices and hardware prioritizing durability and compatibility with hospital systems.

Taipei Veterans General Hospital: Big on Care, Smart on Innovation

With over 2.5 million outpatient visits a year and more than 3,000 beds, Taipei Veterans General Hospital (TVGH) is one of Taiwan’s largest and most advanced hospitals. But size isn’t what defines it, smart care does.

TVGH is home to Asia’s first rare disease and treatment center, and is at the forefront of using AI to improve preventive medicine, diagnostics, and hospital efficiency.

One standout example is their AI-assisted sleep disorder program, which uses a simple five-question tool, to screen for sleep apnea and track your sleep quality.

“We’re able to identify key markers like BMI, age, and symptoms such as snoring or coughing to quickly distinguish sleep apnea from insomnia,” shared Dr. Albert Yang, deputy director of the Medical AI Development Centre at TVGH.

From hospital-based to home-based care, TVGH’s smart hospital strategy is showing how large institutions can lead with both scale and sensitivity.
